The best bridal lingerie for after you’ve said ‘yes’ to the dress

If picking a wedding dress is one of the most important items of clothing you’ll ever choose, the lingerie you wear under it has to take an essential supporting role too. We’ve searched out 29 of the most beautiful sets of bridal lingerie to wear down the aisle – and on your wedding night.

Saying yes to the dress can be a tricky process (although, just like your betrothed, when you find The One you *know*) but what lies beneath can be an even tougher choice. Bridal underwear seems to veer between the kitschily virginal – all ruffles, white lace and promises – to the downright practical with suck-you-in bodies and spray-on support pants appearing to be the only options. But, wait, there are pretty, cute, sexy options out there – and we’ve found the best of them.

Obviously you’ll need to consider the practical elements of what your wedding dress requires before you choose your lingerie. Is your dress curve-skimming satin that needs invisible undies or can you pick something with ribbon edges which won’t show through heavier fabric? Where does the neckline sit and how can you conceal your bra straps? Perhaps you need something entirely strapless? If you’re skipping the dress for a trouser suit with nothing underneath, a high apex bra with a deep plunge could look beautiful with a little lace peeking out. If your dress has built in boning in the bodice and a full skirt you can get away with a frilly pair of knickers and no bra… But any underwear choice is going to weigh heavy with the expectations of The Wedding Night. Although only half of newlyweds actually have sex post-wedding… something to do with being too tired or too drunk apparently, so don’t feel pressured to choose something sexy just because you think you should.

But back to our other favourite S word, shopping. On the high street ASOS’s longline lace bralet (with matching high-waist Brazilian briefs) is sexy and supportive and & Other Stories floral lace dotted soft bra (and matching lace-back briefs) would tick off the ‘something blue’ element of your look without having to wear anything as naff as a garter.

If you have a designer budget, Agent Provocatuer’s mesh bra with scalloped edges (plus matching g-string) would disappear under a white dress while Nubian Skin’s stretch tulle bra and knickers come in an inclusive array of skin-tones, meaning everybody can find their perfect ‘nude’ – as well as being an invisible option that still looks pretty, not practical. Heavily embroidered dresses mean you can play with colour underneath and the fashion pack’s favourite lingerie brand, Dora Larsen, has an adorable underwire bra and thong set in smooth mesh in signature colour-clash glory.
