‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Trailer: Ryan Reynolds Pulled Back Into Action By Samuel L. Jackson And Salma Hayek

Lionsgate has released the trailer for Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, the action comedy that returns the team of Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek, director Patrick Hugues and screenwriter Tom O’Conner for a second go-around after 2007’s successful The Hitman’s Bodyguard.

The pic, like others delayed by the pandemic, is now prepping for its June 16 U.S. theatrical release. It had most recently been set to hit screens August 13, but moved after another Reynolds movie, 20th Century Studios’ own oft-delayed Free Guy, shifted its date to August 20.

The Lionsgate and Millennium Media sequel picks up after the events of the first movie, and finds bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds) trying to recover from those events and recharge — call it a psychological sabbatical. But he is literally pulled back into action by his old friend/foe Darius’ (Jackson) even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Hayek) who need his help saving her husband. They get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful madman (Antonio Banderas).

Morgan Freeman, Frank Grillo, Caroline Goodall, Rebecca Front, Gabriella Wright, Alice McMillan, Kristofer Kamiyasu, Tom Hopper, Blake Ritson and Richard E. Grant also star in the pic, penned by O’Conner and Phillip Murphy & Brandon Murphy.

Matthew O’Toole, Les Weldon and Yariv Lerner are producers of the pic, a Millennium Media/Nu Boyana Film Studios production, in association with Campbell Grobman Films, and in association with Film i Vâst and Filmgate Films.
