The Prettiest AW23 Beauty Trends From Goth Glam To Glazed Lips

New York and London have dazzled Fashion Month once again, but alongside showcasing the outfits we’ll be wearing come autumn, the runways are ripe with AW23 beauty inspo to keep us in the know and inspired, ahead of the season. So, we can start manifesting some seriously phwoarr autumn-winter glow-ups already.

Thanks to TikTok coining new trends on the daily, the looks we’ve been seeing on the runway have been symbiotic. Emerging social trends like the glam grunge and goth-girl trend made popular by Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams have had a noticeable impact on the beauty lewks sashaying down the catwalk. At Erdem, NARS Global Artistry Director, Jane Richardson, created glossy, lived-in black layered eyes set against real skin, while wet-look hair was scattered in crystals to recreate the effect of rainfall. Chet Lo delivered incredible grunge-graphic hairstyles complete with sheer stained lips and a statement lash cluster under the centre of eyes. At Adeam models sported raw, almost-bare skin, contrasted against edgy metal nose rings and dark red stained lips. Smudgy, rimmed eyes featured at Alice + Olivia, Prabal Gurung and more. And angsty, oversized black graphic liners made a statement at Rodarte, Emilia Wickstead and Paul & Joe.

Simone Rocha combined several of 2023’s biggest trends, bringing in glam-goth against a cottagecore and coquette background. Models wore farmgirl braids and botticelli waves with jet black lips and cutesy silk bows trailing from undereyes.

Meanwhile, the barely-there makeup aesthetic that’s a signature of the runways (and the inspo behind the glazed looks made famous by Hailey and other fashion muses) was refined. Cool-girl “clean” beauty brand, Merit, (which features heavily in the makeup bags of models like Bella Hadid and launches in the UK from 22nd February, so mark you diaries), were on hand to supply the products backstage at TOVE and Proenza Schouler. Revealing the brief, lead makeup artist, Diane Kendall, explained the designers at Proenza “wanted a really fresh, glowy look. They want[ed] the girls to have a strong, beautiful, easy look.” She used Merit’s Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil for a light amount of colour on lips and lids and melted the Flush Balm Cheek Color into cheeks. Then called on the Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara for some nearly-naked definition around the eyes.
