Waterfall Fringe Is Trending Thanks To Dua Lipa

Everybody should try out a fringe at some point in their life and the ‘waterfall fringe’, which is currently trending, could be the perfect place to start.

Whether it’s a curtain, blunt, side-swept or French – fringes are a drastic change and a huge commitment but they’re seriously having a moment – just ask Dua Lipa, who debuted her ‘waterfall fringe’ at Cannes Film at the weekend.

With a 1,400% increase in searches for for fringes this week alone, it seems now is the perfect time to trial the latest trend. So what exactly is a waterfall fringe? “A waterfall fringe is a style in which your fringe has pieces of varying lengths and emanates a 70s shag. The pieces face inwards, whilst also subtly framing the face. It’s the ideal mixture of a sleek curtain fringe and a wispy layered fringe with a retro vibe,” says Andrew Vassiliou, Hair Expert/Director at Chris & Sons.

Waterfall fringes are trending because they’re effortless – and who wants to spend hours styling their hair this summer? “They don’t require lots of maintenance due to the cut, and they’re a simple way to incorporate some edge to every style.”

To achieve this look, ask your hair stylist for a layered fringe that rounds in the centre with face-framing layers that cascade downwards on the sides. When it comes to maintaining a waterfall fringe, Andrew suggests adding volume before drying your hair with a round brush. “Another option is Velcro rollers, and these can be a great way to shape your fringe. Blow drying hair in a forward motion, away from the face, allows you to achieve the classic waterfall look. Finish with a hair oil for shine and to keep hair moisturised.”
