Miley Cyrus Tears Up While Reflecting on Her Relationship With Her Dad

Hannah Montana viewers have always known that Miley Cyrus and her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, have a special bond, but seeing Cyrus (Miley, that is) reflect on it as an adult is sweet in a whole new way.

“My dad grew up the opposite of me. I think that’s where me and my dad’s relationship to fame and success is wildly different. Him feeling loved by a big audience impacted him emotionally more than it ever could me. When he feels special or important, it’s like healing a childhood wound,” she shared in a new TikTok video, adding, “And I’ve always been made to feel like a star. It makes me emotional.”

Visibly tearing up, Cyrus played a clip of herself as a young kid listening to her dad sing and play guitar and, in her words, absorbing his musicianship. Ever a loyal daughter, she noted, “Vocally, my dad is under appreciated.”

The TikTok is part of a series to promote her new single, “Used to Be Young,” where the singer looks back at the past 30 years of her life. Of the project, she wrote, “This song is about honouring who we’ve been, loving who we are & celebrating who we will become. I feel proud when reflecting on my past and joyful when thinking about the future. I am grateful to my loyal fans who make my dreams a reality daily. I am sincerely thankful for the stability of your steadfast support. This song is for you.”

In another video Miley Cyrus explains her long journey to becoming Hannah Montana, and how her dad ended up playing her dad on the show. He truly did play a special role in her path to stardom.

I’d heard the thing about her originally auditioning for Lily…but did anyone else have no idea Disney shot a whole Miley-less pilot? Can someone leak, please?
