Cass McCombs has released a surprise album: Seed Cake on Leap Year. Out now digitally, with vinyl and CD copies arriving November 8, via Domino, the new LP is a collection of previously unreleased music that McCombs recorded at Jason Quever’s apartment in San Francisco from 1999 and 2000 while he was living in Berkeley. Give it a listen below.

To celebrate the album’s release, McCombs has also shared three videos for the new songs “Anchor Child,” “Baby,” and “I’ve Played This Song Before.” All three Seed Cake on Leap Year visuals were filmed on camera by his various friends, and edited together by Michelle Yoon.

The Seed Cake on Leap Year release follows 4AD’s reissues of Not the Way, A, and Prefection. Those new editions came out on Friday, September 6.

Next week, McCombs begins a North American tour. The run includes stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and more cities, with select opening performances by Papercuts and Advance.
