Kim Kardashian West has filed for a divorce from Kanye West, TMZ and The Associated Press report. According to TMZ, the divorce is “as amicable as a divorce can be.” Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Kanye West and the office of Kim Kardashian’s attorney Laura Wasser.
In July 2020, West suggested he wanted a divorce in a troubling series of tweets that referenced, among other things, Kardashian’s 2018 meeting with Meek Mill at a criminal justice reform summit and her efforts to “lock him up.”
Shortly after, Kardashian issued a statement about West’s mental health: “As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.” She continued, “I kindly ask that the media and public give us the compassion and empathy that is needed so that we can get through this. ”
The couple, who met in the mid-2000s, began dating in 2012 and got engaged in October 2013. They married in May 2014 during a star-studded ceremony in Florence. Together, they have four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. They have also launched a children’s clothing line, competed on Family Feud, starred in Kanye West’s “Bound 2” video, and appeared together in numerous episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
