In the mid-1990s, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain worked with guitar manufacturer Fender to create the Jag-Stang, an electric guitar that combined elements from the Fender Mustang and Jaguar models. Though Cobain did not play the guitar on stage very often, the iconic offset shape was embraced in decades to come by artists like Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielsen and Molly Rankin of Alvvays.
Today, Fender has announced the Jag-Stang is coming back for the first time since 2006. It’ll be available in Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red beginning in October 2021 with an MSRP of $1,249. Other Fender signature models announced today include the Cory Wong Stratocaster, the J Mascis Telecaster (based on one of the Dino Jr. co-founder’s studio guitars) and a limited-run Screamadelica 30th Anniversary Stratocaster, which features Primal Scream’s iconic artwork.
