Household chores aren’t our favourite thing to do at home (*cough* Netflix *cough*), but what we can get more onboard with is the idea of cleansing the energy in our house. Whether you’re a fully paid-up member of the sage-burning brood or a newbie when it comes to clearing out stagnant, negative energy in your space, today’s (Sunday 20th March) spring equinox is a powerful time to reclaim control over your abode and make sure that we clear any unwanted energy around the house to help welcome in the new.
Whether you’ve just gotten rid of a toxic ex whose energy is still lurking or have been having a bit of a stressful time of late (who hasn’t?), energy cleansing rituals can help calm and clear both emotionally and physically as well as energetically, and it’s a lot easier for you to prep for this big event in the lunar calendar than you might think.
Of course, all the usual spring cleaning activities can be the perfect emotional palette-cleanser for ushering in the fresh, brighter energy of spring — such as decluttering your wardrobe and donating clothes – as these acts help to create both mental and physical space and help us simplify and make space for the new. But as well as this, there are five specific ways to help
But first, what actually is the spring equinox?
4th generation energy healer Aysha Bell explains that it’s all to do with when the sun crosses the equator: “In the Northern Hemisphere, the March equinox (aka spring equinox or vernal equinox) occurs when the Sun crosses the equator line, heading north. This marks the start of the spring season in the northern half of the globe.
“With the Spring Equinox energy your spirit is waking up with new ideas & new dreams for your life. It’s fresh, warm energy has the power to make you feel alive & inspired. The inspiring Spring Equinox energy is encouraging you to be reborn. Embrace this new beginning.”
She adds: “The importance of the spring season is that the daylight will start increasing, so we will experience more light such as illuminating, reminding us that the light will always return to earth. Hence, this equinox is the representation of new life and light, new beginnings, path, and seeds. It is also known as the vernal equinox, and has been celebrated for centuries. Historically, the spring equinox has represented more than just the first day of spring or when the flowers begin to bloom. It has also become a symbol for rebirth, fertility, and new beginnings.”
We’re here for it.
So, now we’re all on the same energetic page, let’s get down to the nitty gritty: how do we actually energy cleanse our home for the spring equinox? Aysha breaks it down for us.
Cleanse exits and entrances with prayers or mantras
“Just as you would take your shoes off when you come home and not walk through the house because you don’t want to bring dirt inside, the same applies to energy. We bring most energies in through the exits and entrances of our homes.
