It’s official: Shackets are the most stylish option for spring’s indecisive weather

It’s the start of Spring, which means one thing and one thing only: it’s time to invest in shackets. The fashion industry loves a hybrid (case in point: jegging/coatigan/snood), and the shacket is the latest in a long line of the kinda-this-kinda-that pieces of clothing you need to get your mitts on.

Unlike the buttoned up blazer – which we love, just not every day – the shacket is a more casual option. In case you’re not familiar with the term, it’s (as you guessed), a mix between a shirt and a jacket. Straight cut, slightly oversized and in a thicker fabric than the former, the shacket is enough to keep you warm on cool spring mornings but not as heavy as a coat. Sometimes called an overshirt, when it’s worn over a white t-shirt or on top of a turtleneck (if you really don’t think it’s warm enough to call it Spring yet) a shacket will serve you WELL, meaning you can get an excellent return on your cost per wear quota, sans any effort at all.

Shackets can be styled buttoned up and belted (shirt-esque) or open and undone (jacket-esque) – always looking cool and coming through as your wardrobe’s ultimate hero piece. And shoppers are cottoning on. You’ve likely seen your Instagram feed blown up with the things and that’s because every body can style them their way… Pick a perky check, like @lissyroddyy, @stephanieyeboah or @cocobeautea then just add jeans or joggers and accessorise accordingly. When the weather gets properly warm, style them with cycling shorts, a floaty midi dress or bare feet and loafers. You get the picture. The possibilities are endless.

So where to buy the best shackets? On the high street Warehouse has a tapestry shacket for dressier occasions, while H&M’s twill style is perfectly Spring-like. Abercrombie & Fitch has a chic sherpa version that looks far more expensive than it is, and if you have a little more money to spend, Isabel Marant Étoile‘s check iteration or alexanderwang.t‘s padded pink style looks cool with jeans for an off-duty mood.

So without further ado, here are the best shackets to buy now and see you right through ’til, well… forever.
