Pooh Shiesty, the 22-year-old rapper born Lontrell Williams, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his Florida gun conspiracy conviction in Miami Federal Court, Rolling Stone reports. In January, Shiesty pleaded guilty to one federal charge of conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of violent and drug-trafficking crimes. The rapper originally faced a total of four charges, but three charges that could have resulted in a life-in-prison sentence were dropped. The charges stemmed from an October 2020 incident near Miami, where Shiesty was accused of participating in a robbery where two men were shot and injured.

Shiesty’s plea deal allowed for a sentence of up to eight years and one month in prison, according to his lawyer. When determining the rapper’s sentencing, the judge reportedly gave him credit for the year he already spent in custody. 

“Listen, nobody’s happy to go to prison, but he was happy the judge listened to our argument, and the judge received the argument well. He was satisfied with the outcome,” Shiesty’s defense lawyer Bradford Cohen told Rolling Stone. “We’re happy with the decision of the court.”

The rapper had previously asked for a delay in order to build a defense, but the legal team representing him and two co-defendants later told the court that it is “in their best interest to proceed to trial.” Pooh Shiesty was ordered to be held without bond in July 2021 following his arrest for an altercation in which a security guard was shot. The incident occurred while Shiesty was out on bond for the 2020 charges.
