Bella Hadid sports a buzz cut and bleached brows at Marc Jacobs’ AW22 Fashion Show

As makeovers go, Bella Hadid‘s buzz cut and bleached brows is surely one of the most radical we’ve ever seen on the runway. Fashion week is, without a doubt, a celebration of the sartorial, but no one could have predicted that Marc Jacobs would send models onto the AW22 catwalk looking like Rooney Mara from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. And yet, despite its severity, Bella Hadid is rocking the look.

Of the two supermodel sisters, Bella rarely deviates from her trademark glowing skin, bare-there foundation and kohled eyes. It perhaps explains why her Ginger-spice inspired auburn highlights during the pandemic grabbed so many headlines. But Marc Jacobs has persuaded her to trade in her usual pared-back look for eerily bleached brows, fiercely contoured cheeks, black eyeliner and a kick-ass, angular black buzz cut with waist-skimming lengths. The finished result was breathtakingly transformational and the fashion bombshell everyone’s talking about.

The catwalk is often a temperature check for what beauty means in the current climate and a showcase of new trends set to go stratospheric in the coming months. Fittingly entitled “Choice”, the Marc Jacobs show had a seriously dystopian vibe about it in the New York Public Library. But will Bella’s look catch on? A slightly alien aesthetic beloved by the beauty underground, bleached brows are a trend that has been quietly bubbling away in the background since last year.  With Kendall Jenner’s all-white 2022 Met Gala look and now Bella’s new spin on the trend, bleached brows are having a moment so expect the look to go mainstream come autumn.

Even though Bella has been sporting wispy baby bangs of late, we’re not sure if the shaved head and mullet is a permanent fixture. But, if we’re honest, we can’t imagine that many will queuing up at the hairdresser for Lisbeth Salander’s sharp-edged buzzcut any time soon.
