There’s no denying the staying power of certain fashion trends, and much like midi dresses and a good white trainer, polka dot prints are one of those trends that continues to find its way into the world’s chicest wardrobes season after season.
Just think back to the Pretty Woman wardrobe. Sure, the scarlet gown was iconic, and there’s no denying the fact that *those* thigh high boots deserve a spot on every ‘iconic shoes’ mood board, but when you first think of Vivian Ward’s fashion moments it’s undoubtedly the brown polka dot dress worn to the races that first springs to mind.
Another fashion icon with a penchant for polka dots is Kate Middleton, who proved her loyalty to the print just last week opting for a spotted dress on two different visits to Centre Court at Wimbledon.
Making her first appearance courtside, Kate wore – or rather re-wore – a blue spotted midi dress by Alessandra Rich, giving a nod to sustainability by opting for the very same dress she wore just a month earlier for the Big Jubilee Lunch as part of the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations.
Just a few days later she arrived at SW19 wearing another polka dot look for the Men’s Final. Designed by Alessandra Rich, one of the royal‘s favourite labels right now, the chelsea-collar navy midi was an appropriately elevated take on the trend for such an occasion, with peplum detailing and a bowed front with crystal-embellished buttons adding a sense of sartorial drama.
Of course, this is not the first time that a polka dot dress has hit the headlines.
Just a few years ago a certain Topshop dress proved so popular that almost as soon as it was it swiped off the shelves for £49 it was being re-sold for over four times the price on eBay.
So what are this season’s polka dot highlights?
