The tempestuous tandem of Country Music icons George Jones and Tammy Wynette are brought to life by Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain in the John Hillcoat-directed limited series George & Tammy. Produced by Chastain’s Freckle Films, 101 Studios, and Andrew Lazar’s Mad Chance and MTV Entertainment Studios, the series premieres on Showtime December 4. Here, the stars discuss the complexity of portraying each character, and singing their Country classics.
It is the second recent singing turn for Chastain, who won the Oscar for her turn playing another Tammy, in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and she discusses replicating the songs of the golden voiced Wynette, whose hits included Stand By Your Man. Shannon, who sings in the band Corporal, first worked with Chastain in the 2011 film Take Shelter. Watch.
