Salma Hayek Opened Up About Shooting Magic Mike Lap Dance Scene

A lap dance is not all fun and games. As we saw in Hustlers, the art of the erotic shimmy requires muscle and stamina. Salma Hayek knows just how challenging it can be after shooting steamy scenes with Channing Tatum for the upcoming Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

“It’s very physically challenging,” the Oscar winner told Entertainment Tonight, referring to the scene in the trailer in which Tatum’s character, Mike Lane, seduces Hayek’s character, a wealthy socialite, with a little bump and grind. “My goodness. You just wait to see. It’s just complicated.”

Should we watch the trailer real quick? Yeah, sure, why not?

The upcoming comedy-drama, directed by Steven Soderbergh, follows Lane as he partners with Hayek’s character to take his talents to London and put on the show of male stripper shows. It’s the last movie in the Magic Mike trilogy and reportedly ends with a 30-minute dance scene. Cannot wait.

“I play a strong woman,” Hayek said in the same interview. “You know what was my day going into the office? I would just sit around and watch, like, 12 men, seminaked, dancing and doing pirouettes. And I got to boss them around.” Sounds rough. We salute you, Salma Hayek, for bravely enduring this torture for the sake of art.

“There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of Magic Mike with Steven, Greg, Reid, and the amazing people at HBO Max,” said Tatum when the movie was announced. “The stripperverse will never be the same.” If this sounds like something you’d like to see in a theatre, sadly, as of now, the movie is headed straight to HBO Max. Maybe if we ask really nicely, we can get it for a weekend in IMAX? The rigour, the athleticism, the sheer gymnastitude (a word I just inspired inside myself) on display really deserves to be seen on a big screen.
