With all the drama surrounding the Met Gala, it’s easy to forget that fashion is supposed to be fun.
Luckily, we have Kendall Jenner and her footloose and pants-free approach to style to remind us. The supermodel and the world’s most famous reality TV aunt attended the 2023 Met Gala in a sequined black bodysuit, sky-high platform boots, and nothing on bottom.
The Marc Jacobs look included a schoolgirl-style collar (also sequined), and sleeves that opened at the elbow and so long they trailed the ground behind her like the train on a traditional ballgown. Jenner’s styling, with her teased high ponytail and oversized diamond stud earrings, gave the look a tongue-in-cheek ‘60s feel.
It’s giving vintage Playboy bunny couture, which I’m choosing to interpret as a cheeky reference to Jenner’s boyfriend, Bad Bunny. Jenner has a long-standing relationship with Marc Jacobs, a brand known for its cheekiness, and recently starred in the label’s Spring 2023 campaign.
While Jenner may be wearing Marc Jacobs to the Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala, there’s no doubting her Lagerfeld bona fides. She was one of “ten of the models that Lagerfeld loved most” who appeared on the May 2023 Vogue cover spread honoring the late designer. “Incredibly honoured to be included in this shoot/group of women to pay tribute to the genius that is Karl Lagerfeld,” Jenner wrote on Instagram. “Shooting this in the Grand Palais was special to say the least! Karl’s space 🫶🏼.”
On the Met Gala carpet, Jenner’s sister Kim Kardashian told LaLa Anthony, “Kendall really started her modelling career with Karl and was the bride in so many of his shows.” In the same interview, Kendall Jenner herself said, “I feel amazing. I’m so happy to be here for Karl.”
