After helming The Tragedy of Macbeth for Apple TV+, seminal filmmaker Ethan Coen has gone in a quite different tonal direction with Drive-Away Dolls, a comedy caper starring Margaret Qualley (Sanctuary) and Geraldine Viswanathan (Cat Person) that today gets its first trailer.

Set for release in theaters nationwide via Focus Features on Friday, September 22nd, Coen’s latest solo effort follows Jamie (Qualley), an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian (Viswanathan) who desperately needs to loosen up. In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.
Also starring Beanie Feldstein (The Humans), Colman Domingo (upcoming The Color Purple), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Bill Camp (Boston Strangler) and Matt Damon (Air), the film is written by Coen & Tricia Cooke, who produced alongside Robert Graf, as well as Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
A potential awards contender likely to bow on the festival circuit, Drive-Away Dolls is set to open on the 22nd opposite Sony’s Dumb Money and Lionsgate’s Expend4bles, in a moment at the start of fall with little other competition.
