Meryl Streep just gave a masterclass in effortless elegance

With the Golden Globes set to open awards season this Sunday 7 January, we’re expecting some major red carpet moments in the coming months. But just when you thought you’d seen all of the classic styles done to death, Meryl Streep is proving otherwise.

It’s no news that Streep knows how to shutdown a red carpet, stepping out in effortless eleganza time and time again, with the actor wearing a stunning classic black dress when she collected her Icon Award at the 2023 Academy Museum Gala in December.

And on 4 January, Streep made another rare public appearance at the Palm Springs Film Awards which she attended to present an award to Carey Mulligan.

In her acceptance speech Mulligan said she had “very little expectation” that Streep would be able to make the event after asking the icon to present her with the award, to which Meryl Streep responded “‘Of course darling, I’ll throw on a frock and I’ll drive down.”

And it’s safe to say that the frock in question did not disappoint.

Wearing a sleek black turtleneck dress and cat-eye glasses, the actor gave a masterclass in understated elegance. Featuring a timeless silhouette and pairing the look with gold bangles, hoops and heels, Meryl Streep looked effortlessly chic as she walked the red carpet.
