Bowen Yang has been taking subtle digs at the decisions being made on Saturday Night Live recently. The actor seemingly called out the show after Nikki Haley’s surprise cameo during the cold open of the latest episode, which was hosted by Ayo Edebiri.
In a since-deleted Instagram post on Monday, Yang shared a photo of a flower arrangement and a note from executive producer Lorne Michaels that was left for the Republican presidential hopeful.
“Welcome to Studio 8H! From Lorne + everyone at SNL,” read the note.
Yang captioned the post, “everyone :),” with comments disabled.
Haley appeared on SNL during the opening segment, where she was confronted by a guest host about the cause of the U.S. Civil War.
“I was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the Civil War, and do you think it starts with an s and ends with a –lavery?” Edebiri asked.
Haley responded, “Yep, I probably should’ve said that the first time.”
The weekend before, Yang appeared to distance himself from the rest of the SNL cast during the good night segment of the NBC late-night sketch show. Dave Chappelle appeared on stage despite not participating on-screen during the entire night. Chappelle has drawn backlash from the LGBTQ+ community for his jokes that many consider transphobic.
SNL recently confirmed that stand-up comedian Shane Gillis would be hosting the show on Feb. 24. Gillis was fired from the show days after he was announced as a new cast member for Season 45 following resurfaced clips of him using anti-Asian slurs.
