Margaret Qualley Will Play Amanda Knox In A New TV Series Produced By Monica Lewinsky

Margaret Qualley will be the latest Hollywood star to take on the story of Amanda Knox, the American author, activist and journalist who was incarcerated in Italy for four years after she was wrongfully convicted of murder.

The actor will play Amanda in an eight-part TV series, executive producing alongside none other than fellow activist Monica Lewinsky and Amanda herself.

According to the series’ official description it will be “based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.” Talk about a tale of female empowerment.

Monica Lewinsky spoke about the project on the Today show at the end of last year: “I wish it were announced already, but I’m executive producing a limited series that’s on another young woman who found her life decimated and ripped apart on the world stage, but she somehow managed to survive,” she said. “I think it’s going to be really powerful.” We don’t doubt it.

The project seems to be run by some amazing women, with Gossip Girl and This Is Us producer KJ Steinberg as showrunner, also.

Amanda Knox and her then boyfriend Raffaele Sollcito were convicted of killing her roommate Meredith Kercher, who was found murdered in their apartment. Their convictions were overturned in 2011 but they were then found guilty again, and then exonerated in 2015. A huge rollercoaster. Amanda wrote about her experiences in her 2013 memoir Waiting to be Heard.

The story has been adapted for the screen before, including 2016 Netflix documentary Amanda Knox, 2011 true crime film Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy starring Hayden Panettiere and 2021’s Stillwater starring Matt Damon, Abigail Breslin, and Camille Cottin, which was reportly inspired by her story.

This is also yet another stellar role for Margaret Qualley, who starred in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Maid, Oscar-winning Poor Things and Drive-Away Dolls.

We can’t wait to see what she does with Amanda’s story, and will update this article with more information about the series as it develops.
