How Newman & Redford In ‘Butch Cassidy’ & ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’s Jack Nicholson Sparked ‘Unstable’ Star Rob Lowe & Why He Welcomed Brat Pack Tag: The Film That Lit My Fuse

Netflix is about to release Season 2 of Unstable, the comedy that stars Rob Lowe as a tech genius in meltdown mode as he grieves the death of the wife who grounded him. Lowe co-created the show, he’s Executive Producer, and stars with his son, John Owen Lowe. That brings full circle a 40-year career’s worth of stage, TV and screen roles for Lowe, who at 60 seems to be immune from the aging process.

Lowe grew up in Dayton, Ohio but found a passion for acting after his mother moved he and brother Chad to Malibu. His big break came when he got cast by Francis Ford Coppola in The Outsiders, and soon he and his castmates were starring in big films including Youngblood, The Hotel New Hampshire, St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night…, the TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, and playing Sam Seaborn in Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing. He starred opposite Chris Farley in Tommy Boy and co-starred in Parks and Recreation. Here, Lowe explains the influences that sparked his long career.
