Amelia Dimoldenberg has announced the final series of her long-running, algorithm-conquering interview series Chicken Shop Date. The deadpan host welcomed the likes of Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish, Dave, and Sabrina Carpenter across a 12-year run, posing acerbic, flirty, and fearless questions that used spontaneity and awkwardness to jolt guests off script. The decision to wind down the series will allow her to “move on from this adventure and onto the next one,” she said in a statement.
Dimoldenberg founded Chicken Shop Date at 17, as a print column for a London magazine called The Cut (no relation to the New York title) run out of a youth center in northwest London. Her initial purview was grime, and, once the column turned into a webseries, her offbeat interview style earned access to luminaries of the genre. A broader swath of musicians followed suit as publicists recognized the show’s easy, intergenerational appeal; film media soon jumped aboard, and the channel’s most viral videos now include dates with the likes of Andrew Garfield and Jennifer Lawrence.
In a press release and on Instagram, Dimoldenberg wrote, “When I was 17, I thought that I might meet the love of my life on a date in a chicken shop. Since then, I’ve spent my entire twenties sat across from the most incredible people, people I’d always dreamt of meeting. All of them charmed me (some more than others), and I definitely charmed them. To me, the show is my very own romcom, and I have loved being able to share it with you.”
Dimoldenberg, who produces the show under her Dimz Inc. label, is currently developing a young adult drama series for the BBC and a romcom movie for Orion Pictures, Deadline notes.
