’90s hair is going nowhere – these are the trends we keep seeing everywhere

Trends are supposed to come and go, but far from a quick flash in the pan, we’re all still talking about 90s hair a couple of years after we first decided it was worth a new spin.

Originally, the draw was nostalgia. It’s a novelty for nineties kids – now that we’re all grown up – to re-hash the velvet headbands and metal snap clips we wore in primary school. It’s a weird blend of comfort and cool. Now, we can all live out our Rachel Green fashion fantasy in a way our six year-old selves couldn’t quite pull off.

We’re not the only ones. Hailey Bieber‘s been on a one-woman mission to revive some ’90s smash-hit hair moments, serving up everything from Baby One More Time pigtails to cutesy butterfly clips.

And, she’s brought pal Kendall Jenner on board, too. At this year’s Coachella the besties were both seen serving up a range of sweet throwback 90s beauty looks, from glossy lips to face-framing baby braids.

Given there’s a whole decade of references to get stuck into, it’s unsurprising that the 90s is the gift that keeps giving. Since Simone Rocha scratched the surface with gemstone hair accessories way-back during her SS18 show, our re-immersion into nineties hair trends has seen us resurrect scrunchies, crimping, tendrils, claw clips and chunky highlights. Now we’re even dusting off bandanas and those colourful cotton-wound braids we all used to get on holiday.

Really, we’re knee-deep in nostalgia, but we’re flexing the individual style we’ve accrued since we were tweens, to make it fashion.

Here’s the 90s hair trends well worth a re-spin:

Pigtails

Oops we did it again. Britney-style pigtails have been TikTok verified and are seriously trending. The good news is, they’re sweet and easy to do. Hailey first gave them a go as part of her Halloween series last year, when she channelled three of Britney’s most iconic looks. Then she was spotted wearing them to support hubs, Justin Bieber on his music tour. Now, bestie Kendall’s repping the throwback style, too.
