As we transition our wardrobes into the warmer months, there’s one outfit essential I just cannot stop buying. And that’s the bodysuit. The unsung hero of my every outfit, bodysuits can see you through daytime, noon and night – sans any effort or very much thought at all. And, somehow, I keep finding myself placing mass bodysuit orders from my bed far too late at night…
Reimagined of late in a plethora of cuts, fabrics and spring-ready hues, it’s perhaps due to their celebrity fan base that they’re experiencing such a boom. Firstly, they’re the backbone to the wardrobe of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (take one glance down her Instagram feed for figure-flattering proof), and anything Rosie loves, we do, too. A staple she pairs with one of her many tailored-to-perfection blazers, Celine shades and a Bottega bag, she’s a fan of the Zara bodysuit in particular. Various pre-lockdown outings in her beloved Zara leotards saw a spike in searches for the stretchy high street style.
Bodysuits are also famously adored by the Kardashian-Jenner clan with thanks to their ability to smooth out your figure and serve up that sleek silhouette of dreams. All while remaining securely tucked under your high-waisted jeans. Kim Kardashian has long paired hers with denim or a pencil skirt, and more recently dropped a line of shapewear bodysuits as part of her insanely popular SKIMS brand. Inclusive in size and skin tone, her mock neck style is one she struggles to keep in stock. Cut from quick-drying stretch fabric for a second-skin fit that’s invisible underneath jeans and pants, they’re among *the* comfiest bodysuits ever.
Sure, it’s not just this summer that the bodysuit will come in handy. Fast-forward to autumn and you can wear underneath a trench coat, and in the winter, they’re a layering essential and best worn under knitwear or your favourite chunky cardigan.
Right now, everyone from our favourite designers to our go-to high street stores are stocking bodysuits in an array of styles. We’re almost overwhelmed with choice. There are lace and multi-way bodysuits at Free People, t-shirt style bodysuits at & Other Stories, plus-size bodysuits at ASOS and long-sleeved bodysuits at Everlane. So where to begin? My extensive bodysuit research has left me armed with the quite the collection of bodysuits well worth adding to your spring wardrobe. You know what to do…
