Emily Ratajkowski is making a case for the one-length blunt haircut

Brat summer is officially over — Charli xcx said so herself. And it seems that Emily Ratajkowski is in agreement.

Gone are the long, carefree days of summer. September is here, and, as the air gets a little chillier and the leaves get a little browner, we are all embracing that back-to-school energy. Whether you’re having a demure autumn or a Meg Ryan autumn, September is the time to get your life in order. It’s the time to pull out your cosy knits, set some goals and, yes, maybe get a fresh, sharp trim.

If you’re looking for a new ‘do that screams not-so-bratty season, Em Rata has just offered up the perfect inspo. The model and actor took to Instagram to share an ultra sleek Proenza Schouler look for New York Fashion Week. She wore a fitted black crop top along with a pleated black leather midi skirt. She carried a bright red handbag to add a pop of colour. And naturally, she had a fresh trim to match her sleek look. No wonder her caption read simply, “back to school.”

Ratajkowski’s new, ’90s-inspired hair is the ultimate slick, chic, no-nonsense look we need for the autumn. Gone are the long, messy, shaggy layers of summer. In their place, a one-length, healthy blunt trim that reaches a few inches past her collarbone – worn straight in a centre part to make the look extra sharp.

Emily Ratajkowski has certainly made the case for the long blunt cut — but, of course, it’s hardly a new look. If we turn back just a few decades, the one-length, straight cut was absolutely everywhere. In the ‘90s, Victoria Beckham wore a shorter version of the look with her famous Posh Spice bob — incidentally, Beckham recently brought the look back with a wavy blunt lob. And in the last few years, everyone from Sophie Turner to Jodie Comer to Lucy Hale has opted for their own version of the sharp blunt cut. As Em Rata has so expertly demonstrated, there’s no better time to chop off all of your layers than the first crisp days of autumn.
