Katie Holmes’ ‘old money’ aesthetic relies on this one key piece

You can always rely on Katie Holmes when it comes to fashion. Her style secret? Timeless, casual wardrobe staples with a contemporary simplicity. This time, however, her latest look does away with any trend-led focus and instead leans into the popular “old money” aesthetic. Super chic, this outfit is the perfect source of inspiration for an elegant spring transitional style that is anything but old-fashioned.

For the opening of the new Chanel Fifth Avenue store in New York, Katie Holmes opted for a super sophisticated and minimalist Chanel (what else?) look.

The actress wore a semi-open cardigan with a V-neck and decorative buttons, with a matching black fabric trouser complete with leg slit.

She finished the look off with classic Mary Janes in black and beige, silver diamond jewellery and a mini Chanel bag with chain detail.

But the key styling detail to note which elevates this look entirely is the black lace bra peeking out from under the open cardigan.

The styling gives the outfit a casual but chic touch, which avoids being too revealing but avoids the knit looking too stuffy.

She also stuck to the “old money” motto when it came to beauty, and wore her hair in a braid to one side with a classic makeup look of a red lip.

‘Timeless elegance via long-lasting staples with an expensive feel’ is how we’d describe the “old money” trend, and Katie Holmes is successfully ticking every single box.
