Sister Wives: How To Have Sex Star Mia McKenna Bruce Will Star In New Film Exploring Queer Love And Polygamy

How To Have Sex actor Mia McKenna Bruce had a big year last year. She starred in one of the most important, impactful films of 2023 and won the BAFTA Rising Star for it earlier this year. And now, she’s made her next move.

She will star in Sister Wives, a short film that is set to be developed into a feature-length movie – and it looks to be an important story around queerness, love and discovering yourself. It was written and directed by Call The Midwife‘s Louisa Connolly-Burnham, who is also Mia’s co-lead and romantic interest.

How To Have Sex raised important questions around issues like consent and how young people are taught about both sex and assault. And Sister Wives seems to be a worthy and exciting follow-up to for Mia.

Mia herself is reportedly excited about her next step. “I’m overjoyed to be joining this film, Louisa’s writing is simply beautiful and I fell in love with the characters and their story the minute I read her script,” she has said.

Louisa added: “After a tough year for our industry I’m thrilled to finally bring this special story to screen with the team I dreamed of.”

Here’s everything we know so far about Sister Wives.

What is Sister Wives about?

According the plot synopsis, it will explore forbidden queer love between two women, as well how that is experienced in a strict, polygamous society.

Sister Wives is a deeply compelling love story that tells the tale of two young women living in a strict, fundamentalist, polygamous society. Kaidence and Galilee find themselves bound to one another, under the same roof, in the same marriage, as they develop scary, new, exciting feelings for each other. In a harsh, regressive, watchful community where being queer is considered a cardinal sin, they begin having thoughts of leaving the only life they have ever known behind.
