Sydney Sweeney is without a doubt one of the best parts of HBO’s teen drama Euphoria, and her family couldn’t be prouder. But as excited as they were to see her work, she should probably have given them a heads-up that the show is, well, pretty raw.
“So, for the premiere, I invited my entire family,” the star revealed in a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. That meant parents, uncles, grandparents. “I was like, ‘It’s the Hollywood premiere! You gotta come!’ We were all sitting next to each other and—giant screen, like, ginormous screen—I was on the floor.”
When DeGeneres asks why she didn’t warn her family, Sweeney practically shouted, “I wasn’t thinking! I was so excited!”
Thankfully, it sounds like they took it pretty well. Sweeney says her family’s reaction—including her grandparents’—was to tell her she had “the best tits in Hollywood.” DeGeneres’s camera operators then found Sweeney’s grandma in the crowd, giving an affirming thumbs up. (Can I borrow the Sweeney family for a hype-up before my next date?)
Sweeney explained that her whole family is super supportive. “My parents and my family, they’re really proud, and they’ve been sending me pictures. Every time they go to a store or the airport and they see my magazine, they cover the entire magazine rack with my cover,” she said. “So you walk by and it’s just Sydney Cosmo.”
We love this positivity! After all, it’s her body, and she’s explicitly stated that Euphoria isn’t a project where she’s felt pressured to show more than necessary. “Sam [Levinson] is amazing,” Sydney Sweeney previously said. “There are moments where Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here’…. He was like, ‘Okay, we don’t need it.’” Sweeney also isn’t here for double standards about male and female onscreen nudity, and it sounds like her family has her back.
