When it comes to ads, there’s nothing better when a brand releases a campaign that truly celebrates womanhood in all its glory.
Nike just released a maternity advert featuring a host of pregnant and breastfeeding athletes and it’s so damn empowering we can’t get enough.
The video, titled “Toughest Athletes” released on Nike’s social media channels, begins,
“Can you be an athlete? You, pregnant? You, a mother? That depends,” The ad goes on to cut to a shots of a variety of famous mothers, including Serena Williams and her daughter Olympia, British runners Bianca Williams and Perri Shakes-Drayton and American soccer player Alex Morgan, in different stages of their pregnancy and postpartum journeys.
The ad goes on, “What is an athlete? Someone who moves? Sounds like you. Someone who gets it done, no matter what? You do that. Someone who listens to her body. Also you. Someone who defies gravity. You. Someone who deals with the pain, hits her limit, and pushes past it. Pushing, pushing, pushing. Someone who earns every single win. You, you, you. So, can you be an athlete? If you aren’t, no one is.”
It concludes, “But no matter what you do or how you do it, you are the toughest athlete.”
The refreshingly honest ad features Nike’s maternity collection called Nike M, which first dropped in September last year. Designed for women throughout all stages of pregnancy pieces include a pullover, swoosh bra, tank and Nike One tights, Nike originally worked on the fit, feel and function of the range for three years.
The film, which has already been viewed over 1.7 million times, has been hailed by users for its powerful imagery.
