These are the Netflix shows everyone’s going to be talking about this year (and some of them are available to watch now)

It hasn’t been a slow start to 2021 on the entertainment front.

We’re already big into Bridgerton and so obsessed with The Queen’s Gambit that we could easily watch it all again. Yet already, Netflix has lined up a veritable feast of shows and films that are sure to get us through January without a thought for our (distinctly lacking) social calendars.

Thank you, streaming friends.

To kick off the year with kick-ass spirit, it’s the leading lady dramas that are getting people talking, rn.

A week into 2021 and already the big buzz has begun about Netflix film, Pieces Of A Woman. Vanessa Kirby, star of The Crown and Mission: Impossible, is being lauded for her performance in a harrowing drama about a home birth gone horribly wrong. She truly outshines her Hollywood co-star Shia LeBeouf and the reviews suggest she is on for Oscar glory.

We’re also pleased to see Priyanka Chopra back on our screens in the film The White Tiger, all about a wealthy Indian family who is outwitted by their driver when they seek to pin the blame on him for a terrible car accident.

Or if you’re looking for what was sure to be a big-screen hit that we can watch from our sofas (cos, Covid-19), mark your calendars for WWII drama The Dig, featuring Carey Mulligan and Lily James. And also, Penguin Bloom where Naomi Watts delivers a tear-jerking performance about learning to find purpose after a life-changing accident.

Aside from all of that Oscar-worthy drama, we can look forward to a steady stream of must-watch documentaries, bingeable reality shows and true crime thrillers dropping throughout the month of January.

Every Saturday night, settle down to a new episode of Ru Paul’s Drag Race on Netflix as Season 13 brings some much-needed colour and excitement into our weekends for at least the next month. Also all the way from America, the US version of The Circle is just the kind of relatable TV we need right now AKA people trying to be sociable (and liked) while staying at home.

We’ve also got Riverdale Season 5 to look forward to at the end of this month, along with a true-crime documentary sure to blow The Ripper out of the water. It’s called The Night Stalker: The Hunt For A Serial Killer and it’s about as chilling as documentaries get.

So forget anything you think you might be missing out on during lockdown 3.0 because these are the only dates you need in your diary, this month.
