Tim Miller has revealed how much money he made to direct Deadpool.
Released in 2016, Marvel’s Deadpool saw Ryan Reynolds play the infamous Merc With a Mouth. The film — which was a massive hit for 20th Century Fox, as it brought in over $750 million at the box office — was followed by two sequels: 2018’s Deadpool 2 and 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
How much did Tim Miller make to direct Deadpool?
Miller told Collider, “You guys might not know, but it’s not really a profitable thing to be a first-time director in Hollywood, and I’ll tell you exactly. I got $225,000 to direct Deadpool. I know it sounds like a lot of money, but for two years of work, that’s not a ton of money. Not that I’m not grateful, I’m fucking grateful, that’s the way it is because you’re supposed to when you’re a first-time director. My agent said ‘Dude, you make more on an episode of The Walking Dead!’
“I think a lot of people think that everyone’s getting paid millions and millions in Hollywood. It’s just not the case, not always. I don’t want to sound like I wasn’t grateful because I had worked, I was 50 when I got a chance to direct Deadpool, and I really thought I wasn’t going to get a chance to direct a movie even though I’d wanted to my whole life. “
Deadpool marked Miller’s feature film directorial debut. Following that, he went on to helm 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate. He also directed the reshoots for 2024’s Borderlands and served as an executive producer on all three films in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
In television, Miller created the Love, Death & Robots animated anthology series for Netflix. He also recently created another animated anthology series, Secret Level, for Amazon Prime Video.
Deadpool is currently available to stream on Disney+ and Max.
