Netflix’s Under Paris Sequel Confirmed, Filming Window Revealed

Netflix’s summer blockbuster Under Paris is receiving a sequel after performing exceptionally well in terms of viewership upon its release. The 2024 surprise hit follows the journey of a grieving scientist who moves earth and heaven in order to save the citizens of Paris from an imminent shark attack. Following its premiere in June, Under Paris went on to become one of the top Netflix France movies, racking up a mind-boggling 179.80 million hours in view time. As such, fans have been waiting for the announcement of the Under Paris sequel, which actress Bérénice Bejo has confirmed in a recent discussion.

Netflix’s Under Paris sequel to begin filming in 2025

According to Bejo, the Under Paris sequel is already in the works and will commence filming in September 2025.

The French actress provided updates on the second installment of the disaster flick during an interview with La Tribune. Conversing in her native language, Bejo shared an interesting anecdote surrounding Under Paris’ success while also providing details about its much-awaited sequel. “In September 2025, we will shoot Under Paris 2 [Sous La Seine 2]. It will not be a simple sequel. It is another film, very different…but still, with a shark,” she disclosed.

Bérénice Bejo also shared the perks she experienced following the unexpected success of the Xavier Gens directorial venture. “It brought me some special requests: Anne Hidalgo [the mayor of Paris] asked me to jump into the Seine with her,” The Artist star added. “I declined. She also asked me if she had been the model for the mayor’s character. It’s more of a mix of her and Valérie Pécresse,” she further stated.

Despite Bejo’s confirmation, Netflix has yet to officially greenlight the sequel. However, considering the updates shared by the actress as well as the movie’s popularity, the follow-up edition is expected to be announced officially by the streaming giant soon.
