The Academy Awards will present its coveted Oscar statuettes for achievements in film at the 96th Academy Awards from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles on Sunday, March 12th.
The red carpet event began with Jamie Lee Curtis, Rita Moreno, Vanessa Hudgens, Wim Wenders, Hoyte van Hoytema, Celine Song, Diane Warren, Leah Lewis, Dominic Sessa, Erika Alexander, and Members of the Osage Nation with more to come.
Hosted for the 4th time by Jimmy Kimmel, the presenters for the evening will include Mahershala Ali, Nicolas Cage, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Fraser, Jessica Lange, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o, Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ke Huy Quan, Sam Rockwell, Michelle Yeoh, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Keaton, Regina King, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate McKinnon, Rita Moreno, John Mulaney, Catherine O’Hara, Octavia Spencer and Ramy Youssef.
The films competing for the coveted best picture are American Fiction; Anatomy of a Fall; Barbie; The Holdovers; Killers of the Flower Moon; Maestro; Oppenheimer; Past Lives; Poor Things and The Zone of Interest.
Leading the nominations are Oppenheimer (13 nominations), Poor Things (11 noms), Killers of the Flower Moon (10 noms) and Barbie (eight noms).
Ten individuals are first-time nominees in the acting categories, including Emily Blunt, Danielle Brooks, Sterling K. Brown, Colman Domingo, America Ferrera, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Hüller, Cillian Murphy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Jeffrey Wright.
Bradley Cooper becomes the fourth person to direct himself to an acting nomination for more than one film. Emma Stone became the second woman nominated for acting and Best Picture for the same film, following Frances McDormand, in Nomadland (2020).
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the Oscars will air live on ABC and broadcast outlets worldwide on Sunday, March 10, 2023, at the new time of 7 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. PDT.
