The Venice Film Festival is currently in full swing on Day 4 with world premiers this evening of the Leonard Berstein biopic, Maestro, starring and directed by Bradley Cooper. The ensemble cast includes Carey Mulligan, Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, and Sarah Silverman. Additionally, director Harmony Korine will present his latest feature, Aggro Dr1ft, and Roman Polanski’s Out of Competition world premiere, The Palace will also be showcased.
Director Ang Lee presented the Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement to Tony Leung Chiu-wai today at the 80th International Film Festival.
Tony Leung Chiu-wai has appeared in three films that have won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival: A City of Sadness (1989) directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien, Cyclo (1995) directed by Tran Anh Hung, and Lust, Caution (2007) directed by Ang Lee.
On Friday, September 3rd, Wes Anderson received the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award in recognition of his distinctive and innovative contributions to the modern film landscape. The award ceremony was followed by an Out of Competition screening of his latest short film, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade
The ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes have cast uncertainty on the presence of celebrities gracing the iconic event, with guild members participating in or promoting premieres doing so only under SAG-AFTRA interim agreements allowing them to make appearances and engage on the festival’s revered red carpet.

Marking its 80th running, the festival continues to showcase its influence by generating buzz for potential Oscar nominations leading up to awards season. The Competition lineup features 21 anticipated films including titles like Ferrari, Maestro, Bastarden, The Killer, and Priscilla among others.

The event’s lineup includes masterclasses and conversations with Anderson and Edward Berger, Philippe Falardeau, Liliana Cavani, Damien Chazelle and Justin Hurwitz, Francesca Lo Schiavo and Dante Ferretti, and Nicolas Winding Refn.
