Netflix’s The Gardener Season 1 ending left viewers with more questions than answers. From the finale, it seems like the Spanish thriller series starring Álvaro Rico (Elmer), Cecilia Suárez (China), and Catalina Sopelana (Violeta) could be back for another season.
The detectives have already caught on to Elmer and China’s long stint of contractual murders. However, the finale shows how the mother-son duo nearly escaped prison, thanks to China eliminating the evidence at the correct time.
Elmer and China’s fates at the end of The Gardener, explained
China Jurado exploits her son Elmer’s emotional impairment and starts a business of contractual murders. However, the ending of The Gardener unveils how China and Elmer’s relationship has taken a hit. It all started when Violeta entered the scene, the girl that Elmer was supposed to kill. He ends up falling in love with her and kills the woman (Sabela) who hired Elmer to eliminate Violeta.
Meanwhile, China tries to ruin Violeta and Elmer’s relationship by hiring Orson, another contractual killer. The plan fails, but Elmer gets to know about his mother’s true intention. China, in a desperate plea to revive her son’s emotional impairment, hits him on his head. Elmer goes through the surgery and looks like he returns to the state where he can’t feel any positive emotions, including affection or love.
The police finds out about China and Elmer’s long history of killings. So, with a damaged relationship between Elmer and China, the mother-son duo seems vulnerable. If the pair returns to their “old job” in the future, they might get exposed for all their crimes.
Does Elmer end up with Violeta in The Garner?
In The Gardener finale, Violeta leaves the city to be far away from Elmer and China. In the ending scene, she returns to Elmer’s garden with a peculiar request. It looks like Elmer has stopped the contract-killing job, but Violeta asks him if she can hire him to remove someone’s existence.
Viewers do not know whom Violeta wants to kill through Elmer. It is possible that Violeta has returned to find answers about her partner, Xoan Costera, whose death remains a mystery. If Elmer takes the “job” again, he also risks getting exposed for his past crimes, as the city’s detectives are keeping an eye on both him and China.
Does Orson die in The Gardener?
The explosive finale of Netflix’s The Gardener reveals two major deaths, Sabela and Orson. While Sabela dies in Elmer’s hands, the latter gets killed by Violeta. China had hired Orson to kill Elmer’s lover, as she posed threats to the former’s booming business. However, Violeta does not budge easily and ends up stoning Orson to death in a desperate attempt at self-defense.
