Zeus, the star top laner of the Korean League of Legends team, has reportedly left the Worlds 2024 winner T1. He has been an integral part of T1 since he was a rookie gamer. Winning numerous championships with T1, Zeus’ decision has prompted esports fans around the world to wonder why he chose to leave the champion team.
Here is everything fans need to know regarding Zeus’ departure.
Here’s why Zeus is leaving T1
The reason behind Zeus leaving T1 is not very clear. However, it is suspected that he decided to leave part ways after his agency and the top management couldn’t come to an agreement related to his contract.
Dexerto states that a report by Naver asserted that T1 had the intention to re-sign Zeus for 4 years. However, the esports gamer wasn’t allegedly happy with the duration. The other members of T1, Gumayusi, Keria, and Oner, have reportedly been re-signed for 2 years, while Faker’s contract ends in 2025. Additionally, the re-signing amount also reportedly became a concern between the two parties.
As per the outlet, Zeus’ agency said in a statement, “We told T1 that the deadline for accepting the offer was 3 PM and eventually waited for T1’s opinion until 3:40 PM. The amount was somewhat similar, but there was a serious difference in opinion regarding the contract period.”
A spokesperson from T1 also stated that the LOL team was “unilaterally informed of the 3 PM deadline, we rushed to Incheon to continue negotiations and requested further negotiations by phone, but we received a rejection from the agent.” There have been no official comments on which team Zeus joined. Albeit, rumors suggest that he has signed with Hanwha Life Esports, AKA HLE.
Additionally, T1 shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), bidding farewell to Zeus. They wrote, “Today, we part ways with ‘Zeus’. We truly thank him for all that he has accomplished at T1 and wish him all the best.”
Meanwhile, according to a report by One ESports, T1 has reportedly got former HLE top laner Doran on board.
