Animal Collective’s Geologist and Highlife’s Doug Shaw Announce Album, Share New Video: Watch

Geologist & D.S.—the new duo of Animal Collective multi-instrumentalist Brian “Geologist” Weitz and White Magic and Highlife musician Doug Shaw—have announced a collaborative album: A Shaw Deal is out January 31 via Drag City. The first preview of the duo’s forthcoming record is “Route 9 Falls,” which also comes with a trippy music video by Danny Perez in which the two perform the track. Find it below.

A Shaw Deal began as a birthday present that Geologist made for his longtime friend Doug Shaw, who had been posting videos of his improvisational guitar playing on Instagram. Geologist took the sessions’ audio and ran it through his modular system to show his pal. “I didn’t set out to make a Geologist record, or even a record anyone but Doug would hear,” the Animal Collective musician explained in a statement. “I didn’t add any new sounds beyond what existed, and just fed the raw materials through myself as a possible channel. That way, I could say, ‘Happy birthday. You made a record, you just didn’t know it.’”
