A ton of musicians are seeking nominations for Best New Artist at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Voting begins today, and the ballot shows a lot of interesting names, including: Babyface Ray, Babytron, Bartees Strange, Benny the Butcher, Black Country, New Road, Cate Le Bon, Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul, Denzel Curry, Dijon, Flo Milli, Glorilla, Grace Ives, Idles, Julia Jacklin, the Linda Lindas, Makaya McCraven, Mitski, Muna, Nilüfer Yanya, Rina Sawayama, Shygirl, Silvana Estrada, Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Sudan Archives, Turnstile, Wet Leg, and Whitney.
The 2022 Grammy Award for Best New Artist went to Olivia Rodrigo, who beat out Japanese Breakfast, Arlo Parks, Baby Keem, and others. Before Rodrigo’s victory, the previous three winners were Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa. As Billboard recently noted, the 2023 field is relatively more open than in the past few years without an established candidate likely to take home the trophy. Still, the 2023 ballot includes a handful of major pop figures, such as Måneskin, Anitta, Omar Apollo, and King Princess.
