Taylor Swift Cancels Vienna Eras Tour Concerts After Police Arrest Terrorist Attack Suspects

Nearly 200,000 people were expected to attend the three Austrian shows

Taylor Swift has canceled her three Eras Tour shows in Vienna after Austrian police arrested two men who are accused of plotting a terrorist attack. The concerts had been scheduled to take place on August 8, 9, and 10 at the city’s Ernst-Happel-Stadion. Nearly 200,000 people had been expected to attend the concerts. The New York Times reports. And, according to the Austrian concert promoter Barracuda Music, all tickets for the Vienna shows will be automatically refunded.

“Both suspects had become radicalized on the Internet and had taken concrete preparatory actions for a terrorist attack,” reads a German-language press release from the Austrian interior department. “Based on current assessments by the State Security and Intelligence Directorate regarding terrorist and extremist acts, the Vienna State Police Directorate has increased security precautions, particularly at major events. The terror alert level in Austria remains high and is continuously evaluated.”

Swift is nearing the end of the European leg of the Eras Tour. She recently played three shows in Warsaw, Poland, and she will perform five concerts at London’s Wembley Stadium. She returns to North America in October and plans to finish the tour, in Canada, in December.
