Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 Review

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 Review

The thrilling match between Blue Lock and the Japan U-20 National Team is finally over. Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14, “Last Attack,” brings the match to a close as both teams go all out for the win.

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 wastes no time getting straight into the action. Blue Lock is on the counterattack, with Itoshi Rin leading the way. It is evident from the start that something is up with Rin. His eyes have changed, and he has become a bit maniacal. This is precisely what Ego wants from his players: For them to take control of the game as individuals to win.

The opening sequence is over six minutes long and is just a highlight reel of Rin mowing through the U-20 team. His teammates are floored that he would eschew any semblance of teamwork to make a run on his own, but it looks like it will pay off. He comes up against individual defenders and successfully beats them all with incredible skill. This is also masterfully animated, giving it the visual weight such an important moment deserves.

Rin’s run ends with him perfectly placed to take a shot on goal. He uses a bit of trickery to deliver the shot that hits the post. It then lands at the feet of none other than his brother and rival, Sae. It is fitting that the two players who have been their teams’ catalysts throughout the match would be the final ones with the ball as the game enters stoppage time.

Relationships come to a head in Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14

The relationship between the Itoshi brothers has been one of the season’s main focal points. Seeing it come to a head in Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 is the culmination of a season-long story that is finally paying off. Rin is desperate to beat his brother—to absolutely crush him—and Sae seems almost unbothered by his brother’s inability to do so.

Their meeting on the pitch here at the end delivers on the promise of the emotion that has been building as the battle of skills reaches its climax. A mix of beautiful present-day skill animation and heartfelt, emotional flashbacks make this an incredible moment in the dying minutes of the match. Seeing their relationship play out on the field has been a joy to watch, and Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 delivers an excellent final matchup.

Lost in all of this has been Isagi’s growth. The first season’s main character took more of a backseat in season two, but he really delivers when called upon. As everyone is focused on the Itoshi brothers, Isagi makes the most of his chances and miraculously scores a late goal to put Blue Lock up 4-3 with only seconds left to play. It is fitting that Isagi scored that important goal since this started as his story.

The emotions of that winning goal are palpable. The roar of the crowd makes the excitement palpable, and the elation (and a bit of surprise) on all of the faces makes it even better. One of the best things about soccer is watching a late goal change the game, and Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 really delivers that same emotion here.

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 is a wonderful finale

The post-match conversations between the two teams are incredibly interesting. Aiku congratulates Isagi in a very friendly manner, which shows that this match might not have been as cutthroat as it seemed. Both teams learn a lot from each other, and the idea of what soccer truly should be has evolved.

Another highlight of Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 is a great conversation between the two Itoshi brothersSeeing these two come together after battling it out so hard on the field makes the ending land the emotional hits it was aiming for. They both realize, in their own way, that Isagi is the future of Japanese soccer. What will be interesting is seeing how they deal with that going forward.

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 also does a great job setting up what comes next. Isagi finally gets his moment in the sun and starts showing a bit of ego. He declares himself the leader of Japanese soccer and claims on national television that he will lead his country to glory. The Blue Lock players are told that phase one of the program is completed, but the real work starts now. This is a great way to wrap up what has taken place while also setting the stage for the next season and the new challenges that await them.

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 14 is a wonderful finale that pays off everything the season has been building towards. It has the emotional highs a thrilling match like that deserves and also sets up well for the series to continue pushing forward.
