BRIT Awards: Arlo Parks, Dua Lipa and Celeste nominated as women dominate album category

Arlo Parks, Dua Lipa and Celeste have each bagged themselves three BRIT Award nominations, with women making the majority of the best album list for the first time.

The nominations are also the most diverse in the awards’ history, with black artists in every category.

Arlo Parks and Celeste are both up for best female artist, breakthrough artist and best album, while Dua Lipa has been nominated in the solo artist, best album and British single for Physical.

Joel Corry, as well as Young T and Bugsey are also up for three awards this year – breakthrough artist, British group and British single.

AJ Tracey, Jessie Ware, Bicep, Headie One and J Hus have all been nominated for two BRIT Awards apiece.

In the album category, only one male artist was featured, in rapper J Hus who gets a nod for his album Big Conspiracy, with the other four nominees all being women – the first time ever that the category has had more women than men in it.

More from Brit Awards

Arlo Parks, who is also a poet, released her album Collapsed in Sunbeams in January to wide critical acclaim, reaching number three on the UK album charts, while Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia has already won a Grammy this year.

Celeste, meanwhile, is already roaring to success after being recognised as BBC Music’s Sound of 2020 last year, and will also challenge in the album category for her debut Not Your Muse, which hit number one in January.

Podcaster Jessie Ware will also challenge in the album category for her record What’s Your Pleasure? – her fourth studio album. She was first nominated for a BRIT in 2013 in the breakthrough and solo female artist category.

Drill, rap and grime artists made a strong showing across a number of categories, with acts such as J-Hus, Headie One and Young T & Bugsey being recognised.
