Rebekah Vardy gives first interview since losing Wagatha Christie libel trial

Rebekah Vardy said she feels “let down by the legal system” in her first interview since losing the Wagatha Christie libel case against Coleen Rooney.

Vardy, who is married to Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy, appeared to become emotional in a teaser clip released ahead of an interview with TalkTV.

Last week, the 40-year-old lost her high-profile court case against Rooney, 36, over a viral social media post.

The High Court judge found Rooney’s Instagram post outing Vardy for leaking stories to The Sun was “substantially true”.

Vardy has given her first interview since the judgment and can be seen growing tearful as she sits down with host Kate McCann.

The former I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestant looks toward the news anchor and says: “Oh come on, you can’t ask me that.”

Later in the teaser, Vardy adamantly says: “I will say that ’til I’m blue in the face. I did not do it.”

The bitter court battle stemmed from an October 2019 social media post, where Rooney said she had carried out a months-long “sting operation”, accusing Vardy of leaking “false stories” about her private life to the press.

The wife of former England star Wayne Rooney publicly alleged Vardy’s Instagram account was the source behind three stories in The Sun, featuring fake details she had posted on her private account.

The post went viral, receiving over 370,000 engagements on Twitter, including almost 50,000 retweets.

Vardy denied leaking the stories and sued Rooney for libel, an accusation Rooney defended.

Judge Justice Steyn ruled in favour of Rooney on 29 July and while Vardy disagreed with the verdict, she indicated after the decision she would not be appealing.

It is believed the total legal costs for the civil dispute will be in the region of £3m.
