Cameron Mathison is an actor known for a number of projects, especially his work in soap operas like General Hospital. However, in recent years, he’s also been sharing his health journey with fans. During a recent event, he had a bit of advice for fans that he felt had saved his own life in the past. This also comes out as Mathison recently shared a new health update on social media.
Cameron Mathison Joined General Hospital Back In 2021
Mathison is an actor best known to many for his work in soaps. Since 2021, he has played Drew Cain on General Hospital.
Prior to this, Mathison was known for portraying Ryan Lavery on All My Children from 1998 to 2011. In recent years, Mathison has also become known for various Hallmark and Great American Family projects.

Recently, Mathison appeared at the 33rd Annual Movieguide Awards. At the time, he had some advice to share with fans while reflecting on his own health journey.
The actor has often shared hard times with his fans. Back in 2019, Mathison shared that he had been diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma. In 2025, he also shared that his home had been burned down by the Eaton fire.
During the recent event, while speaking with Fox News Digital, Mathison encouraged listeners to “pay attention to their body” when it comes to things like “digestion” and “energy.” He noted that paying attention to his body like this “definitely saved my life.”
Mathison warned that people shouldn’t act like a “hypochondriac.” However, he noted that he was very “diligent” when it came to “testing” and keeping his body’s concerns in mind.
The Actor Also Recently Shared A Big Update On Instagram
Mathison advised fans to take things gradually. While he said not to instantly expect the worst over simple pains, he shared, “But over time, if you do testing and blood work and different things and things are off over time, like, get an MRI, check it out.”
In a recent update on Instagram, Mathison shared that a recent scan showed that he is officially six years cancer-free. He especially noted that his kidney functions actually look better.

Throughout his health journey, while speaking with the outlet, Mathison noted that this whole journey caused him to learn a lot about his own physical nature. The actor shared, “I learned things about my body and my natural genetic makeup that were off. Things like, I don’t detoxify very well. There are certain things that I have to be really aware of, so it really drove me to be more in-depth, a deeper, deeper dive on my health.”
According to the Patient Resource website, gastrointestinal issues led to Mathison undergoing the MRI that alerted him to his kidney’s health. He had also undergone surgery to remove the tumor, as well as around one-fifth of his kidney.
