Here at TV Fanatic, we absolutely love it whenever we get the chance to talk with a star from one of our favorite shows. This time, I had the pleasure of chatting with one such individual from a lovely little show called Matlock.
You may know this guy as the sweetest associate at Jacobson Moore, the elite law firm that Kathy Bates’ Matty is determined to take down. Don’t worry because this character is far from Madeline’s hit list.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m happy to spotlight David Del Rio and his wonderfully lovable character, Billy. This guy is just as fun and sweet as his character.
We took a deep dive into the premiere season of Matlock and discussed so many aspects of the show, really getting into the inner workings of this fantastic series.
While I would have loved talking with David for hours, there’s a good chance I would have exhausted the theater thespian with my many, MANY questions.
Suffice it to say, I kept the man busy with the bit of time I had.
Any viewers who had the pleasure of watching Matlock Season 1 Episode 7 received a crash course in David Del Rio’s fantastic acting range. I’m probably biased, but it was such an intensely emotional scene.
SPOILER WARNING for fans who have not seen Matlock Episode 7. David and I discuss a few plot points from “Belly of the Beast.”

As you saw for yourself, David and I had an in-depth discussion and a lot of fun. Sadly, we did not get to all the games that I had planned. I’ll save them for next time.
One thing I took away from the interview is that Kathy Bates is as amazing as everyone thinks. I’m not going to lie; that genuinely made me like Matlock even more.
Here’s a fun fact about the interview: Before we started recording, I warned David Del Rio that there was a strong chance I would call him Billy. It was a Christmas miracle that I didn’t.
Hearing how the cast works so well together confirmed what I had suspected for a while about the show. The chemistry between the cast members is a clear indicator of how well they collaborate.
And, as an added bonus, who knew Jason Ritter was the best dancer on Matlock? So, if we see his character, Julian, dancing poorly, we know that’s just solid acting.
Fingers crossed that this was only the first of many interviews from the Matlock cast. Especially since David Del Rio gave us that last little bit of info about what’s coming from CBS‘s Matlock Season 1.
The series has one more episode in store for its very loyal fan base before it takes a break until after New Year’s, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a heavy episode that sends audiences reeling until the break is over.
