Steve Burton Is Returning to ‘General Hospital’

Port Charles is about to welcome back an old friend.

After recently revealing that he’s leaving his one-year gig on Days of Our Lives, Steve Burton is now headed back to General Hospital, Deadline has confirmed. He will reprise his role as Jason Morgan in early 2024.

Burton left the ABC sudser in 2021 after failing to adhere to its vaccine policy. He ended up joining the second installment of Beyond Salem, Peacock’s Days of Our Lives spinoff, before hopping over to DOOL earlier this year. He played Harris Michaels, a role he originated on Days in 1988.

Burton played Jason Morgan on and off GH from 1991 to 2012, then from 2017 to 2021. His departure from GH came three weeks after the soap drop-kicked Ingo Rademacher, who had been a vocal critic of COVID-19 mandates. He subsequently sued ABC for religious discrimination.

Last July, Burton talked to Deadline about leaving the ABC soap. “Look, the circumstance [of his GH departure] was tough and you know, that’s just the way it is. I’ll always be grateful for my time there. It was my family for so long. I grew up there and the fans have always been awesome to me.”

Soap Opera Digest was first to break the news.
