EXCLUSIVE: Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered) and Kate Robbins (After Life) have boarded Channel 4/Starz drama The Couple Next Door, which stars Sam Heughan and Eleanor Tomlinson.
The thriller series from Professor T producer Eagle Eye Drama follows Tomlinson’s Evie and Pete (Harry Potter star Alfred Enoch), who move into an upscale neighborhood and find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety. They find friendship in the shape of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny (Heughan) and his wife, glamorous yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw), but after Danny and Evie share a passionate night together, there is trouble ahead.
Dennis, who made his name on a string of comedy panel shows and sitcoms but is turning to more serious drama, will play nosey neighbour Alan Matterson, while Robbins, who starred as Penny Spencer-Wright in Ricky Gervais Netflix hit After Life, is his wife Jean. Unaware that Alan has taken to using a telescope to watch Becka for his own gratification, Jean is able to take delicious revenge on her peeping tom husband when he starts to take things to a new level.
The show will launch later this year on Channel 4 in the UK, Starz in North America and Lionsgate+ in Latin America. Filming took place earlier this year in Leeds and Belgium, and Beta Film is distrbuting.
Outlander‘s Heughan and Tomlinson are two of the bigger stars to have featured in Channel 4 projects of late. The network is also preparing to premiere Alice & Jack, the relationship drama starring Andrea Riseborough and Domnhall Gleeson, co-produced with PBS Masterpiece.
