Friends stars reveal what they imagine their characters are doing now as trailer for special is out

The official trailer for Friends: The Reunion has been released, ahead of the programme being broadcast in the US next week.

It was announced earlier this month that the much-anticipated new episode of the popular TV comedy will be aired on Thursday 27 May, featuring all six members of the original cast.

And on Wednesday, the trailer for the one-off unscripted special was shared, including clips from the episode.

It showed the stars walking around the original set at Warner Bros Studios in California, taking part in a trivia game and doing a table read of well-known scenes, including Phoebe spotting Monica and Chandler kiss from season 5.

And Cox, who played Monica Geller, said: “It was an incredible time. We became best friends.”

The trailer ends with Aniston telling the rest of the cast that she loves them as they embrace.

Speaking to People magazine ahead of the special being broadcast, the cast discussed what they thought their characters would be doing now.

Aniston, who played Rachel Green, said that getting back together for the reunion was “like a family. I don’t have sisters. It’s what I assume sisters are like”.

Speaking about what Rachel’s life would be currently like, Aniston said: “I would like to have maybe started a clothing line of my own, and it’s sort of a small franchise.

“Like a Nili Lotan. And I live in New York City on the Upper East Side.”

Cox said: “Monica would be doing something competitively with other mothers and trying to outdo them.

“Whether it’s the bake sale at school or something. I mean, she’d be so annoying.

“She’d be at the head of the PTA or something.”

Kudrow thinks Phoebe “is living in Connecticut with Mike and their kids, and she’s in charge of the arts programme for the school.

“And just the advocate for her kids because they’re different like she was.”

Perry believes his character Chandler Bing “would be a wonderful father. And a wonderful comedy writer”, while LeBlanc said Joey Tribbiani “would have opened a chain of sandwich shops”.

Schwimmer said Ross would “have invested in Joey’s sandwich shop and lost a lot of his savings for his kids”.

James Corden hosts the programme and asks the actors questions, and the episode also includes a string of other celebrity appearances, such as Lady Gaga, David Beckham and Justin Bieber.

Friends, which ended its 10-year run on NBC in 2004, was about six 20-somethings in New York.

It was one of the most popular TV shows of the 1990s and found a new life on streaming platforms where it continues to be one of the most-watched shows worldwide.

The new episode will air in America on HBO Max.

A UK release has not yet been announced.
