All of the most incredible dresses from the 2022 Oscars red carpet

Sure, Kristen Stewart, Ariana DeBose, Olivia Colman, Will Smith, Nicole Kidman and Andrew Garfield may have had their eyes on a slightly golder, more statuesque gong at Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony, but with all eyes on the red carpet there was no doubt that the title of ‘best dressed’ would be one of the most competitive categories at this year’s Academy Awards.

The most major event on the awards season calendar, the 2022 Oscars was the last in a long line of epic red carpets – and the one which stars usually reserve their very best look for.

And if this year’s BAFTAs, SAG Awards and BRITs were anything to go by, Sunday night looked set to be more major than ever.

After two years spent in varying degrees of lockdown – and after an inevitably low-key 2021 Oscars affair – both the stars walking the red carpet and those of us pulling all-nighters to see the looks live were primed and ready for a serious sartorial extravaganza.

One of the first to arrive was Lily James, wearing a pastel pink Versace gown with embroidered detailing which softened her loosely-tousled, rich brunette hair. Joining her was Demi Singleton in an *epic* Miu Miu look, and Vanessa Hudgens wearing a cut-out gown by Michael Kors Collection.

It wasn’t until a little while later that Zendaya made her much-anticipated entrance, but what an entrance.

Wearing an incredible silver sequinned skirt with a flowing train by Valentino, the beauty paired the statement piece with a cropped ivory silk skirt and some *serious* diamonds.

Next to take our breath away was Lupita Nyong’o, who’s no stranger to an Oscars showstopper. Remember that cornflower blue Prada gown in 2014? We still swoon almost a decade later.

Relying on the designer once again this year, Lupita’s Prada look featured gold sequins from head-to-toe, with pale pink beading decorating the bodice and metallic gold fringing falling from the waist to the floor-skimming hemline.
