Sky News has been named News Channel of the Year for a sixth consecutive year at the Royal Television Society journalism awards – with chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay winning journalist of the year
Judges praised Sky’s “impressive range of coverage, strong presentation, creative production and commitment to reporting the issues that matter most to the audience beyond daily events”.
Our coverage in 2022 included being on the ground in Ukraine since the first day of Russia’s invasion and getting the first UK TV interview with President Zelenskyy.
Political highlights included the ‘Battle for Number 10’ special, which saw Kay Burley putting Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak on the spot, and our Political Editor Beth Rigby drawing a memorable apology from Boris Johnson over the Partygate scandal.

Moment Queen Elizabeth’s death announced
Sky News was also the first broadcaster to report the death of Queen Elizabeth, with Dermot Murnaghan making the announcement to the gasps of the crowds next to him at Buckingham Palace.
Chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay was also named network TV journalist of the year.
He was praised for being a “visual storyteller whose professionalism shines through in all his work”.
Ramsay’s reporting from Ukraine last year included dramatic footage of him and his team coming under fire and being forced to run for safety as bullets peppered their car.

‘I’m hit’: Extended video of harrowing ambush
The wins come after TV watchdog Ofcom last year found Sky News was the most trusted UK news broadcaster.
Other winners at the ceremony, held at the Hilton on London’s Park Lane, include Jeremy Paxman – who won an outstanding contribution award.
RTS judges called the former Newsnight and University Challenge presenter a “legend in the television industry whose career as a reporter and presenter has spanned multiple decades”.
Among other winners, ITV News and the BBC were honoured for best UK and international news coverage – for Partygate and the Ukraine war respectively.
