Kim Kardashian: The scoop on the star’s 2am tan for the Met Gala

It’s safe to say that Kim Kardashian is a Met Gala veteran. Over the years, she has rocked everything from a sheer crystal-embellished Roberto Cavalli gown to her ‘near naked’ Thierry Mugler dress and, not forgetting, that iconic Marilyn Monroe dress at the 2022 Met Gala.

This year, the star stunned in a custom-made midi dress by Schiaparelli made entirely of strands of pearls. It also featured a golden bra and oyster-coloured corset bodice. So it was crucial to hit that elusive sweet spot between a faux glow that still skews natural and a shade to make the pearl details pop against the skin.

Enter, Kim Kardashian’s favourite A-list tanning expert Jimmy Coco, who worked his glow-giving magic on her before she stepped onto the red carpet for fashion’s biggest night out. In fact, Jimmy says he rocked up at Kim’s hotel at 2am to tan her using a custom blend of his Sunless by Jimmy Coco Face & Body Soufflé in ID 3&4.

“Kim is committed to her glow!,” Jimmy told GLAMOUR UK. “Kim and I often have late night tanning sessions because she’s a busy mom and entrepreneur so it’s a quiet time. It also means her red carpet glow is super fresh.

“Kim wanted a natural, sun-kissed glow – a ‘skin finish’ versus a deep, showy tan,” Jimmy continues. “The aim was to finish her skin with a delicate bronze that enhanced her stunning outfit and those incredible pearls.”

Only fittingly, Jimmy also used ‘tantouring’ techniques for the woman who made contouring accessible for all by bringing her sculpting skills to social media. “Contouring techniques are always part of my tanning process – it’s a skilled art that I’ve practiced for years to perfect. It enables me to invisibly enhance natural curves.”
